30 10 days challenge

I've been lacking blogspiration recently, so I decided to hop on this 30 day challenge that's been floating about on blogsville BUT I am going to be cheating. Cheating in a good way though because I'm sure no one is terribly interested in reading these 30 things (of which a lot are personal). So yes, I shall be cherry picking the questions I want to answer..bite me :)

First one up 5 ways to win my heart
  • Love God. If you appear to have an apparent love for God you have a major advantage in my books, the sad thing is that this is easy to feign. Seriously though, my ideal man is a man like David, a man after God's heart. That being said, I am not so up for being a Pastors wife, can I just get me a banker, engineer, architect version of David...Thank you.

  • Be Tall. So yeah you got to have to be tall to find your way to my heart. I know that sounds shallow and I know you cannot make yourself tall but soz thats just the way it is.  Yay for tall guys!

  • Be eloquent. I am a sucker for an eloquent man. No dodgy accents or frequent gbaguans and even when you message me there still have to be a decipherable bit of English left in it.
  • Be a go-getter. If you want something go after it whatever it is, drive in a guy is very attractive. You have to be able to chase your dream and your goals and er, me.
  • Don't be too predictable. Its nice for guys to spring up (pleasant) suprises from time to time, makes things a bit more fresh and exciting.
Caveat: So erm, success rates cannot be guaranteed. Generally these are nice things to have and do but there aren't any set ways to win my heart, actually I'm not that hard to please. But winning my heart alone won't do much good because you have to win my heart, my head etc...At the end of the day you either got it or you don't!  *kanye shrug* :)

That's all for now folks!

Discovered music

Thank you for the well wishes with exams and all. I am finally done with undergrad now..Thank God!! I am really so grateful and I have just been enjoying this downtime before entering the chaos that is the "real world" :s Lots of big decisions to make but I'm just taking it one step at a time for now. Congrats to everyone graduating from secondary/high school, uni, post grad this year!!

While I've been chilling, I've had more time on my hands to trawl the web and discovering new music that I love is one of the sweetest things. Coming across the beautiful Rox was one of the highlights of my week. She's been around since early last year and she released a single called "My baby left me" but I wasn't really feeling it at the time. Still not really into it but I love every other thing I've heard off her!

No Going back-

Precious moments (One of my future wedding songs)

On to other new music I've been listening to is one of Kimbra's, who I discovered through facebook. She has a very unique style, quirky but still cool.

Settle down- I cannot stop singing this song.

Beauty and the Black I

So I saw these two very sad videos posted on facebook this week.

  • This is a study by two psychologists using children aged 3-7.

  • And a documentary called dark girls. Its abit long but do try to watch most parts of it.

Dark Girls: Preview from Bradinn French on Vimeo.
  • And there was the research  published last week by Dr Kanazawa, a lecturer at the London School of Economics. He's findings were based on a survey of white, Asian, black and native American men and women who were asked to rate each other’s attractiveness based on photographs. In his article, Kanazawa wrote: "Black women are … far less attractive than white, Asian, and Native American women."

So, other races think black women are ugly, black men think dark skinned girls are less attractive and black dark skinned women also think dark skinned women are less attractive....!!!

Err..what hope do we have then? If nobody loves us, we ought to love ourselves first. I will put up a follow up post on this later.

But for now, dark skinned girls rise! Just because somethings are the way they are now, doesn't mean they are how they ought to be. Some profound writer wrote "We never see things the way they are, we see them the way we are".

Black is beautiful, we just need to start seeing it.

Dear Final year Exams

Dear Final Year Exams,

Thank you for being the big hurdle at the end of Uni that determines a huge part of my life afterwards. If you weren't so important, I definitely wouldn't have bothered that much and that means I wouldn't have been able to finally kind of understand the whole point of my course and learn so much in such a short time. It means I would never have known what it felt like to be up for more than 24 hrs straight, it kinda made me feel like superwoman ;). Thank you for being all time consuming, even though i'm missing out on things like my blog and job applications, I could have also been occupied doing far worse things. And finally thank you for showing me that I can push myself out of my comfort zone, I was getting worried about that. I hope you bring me good results.

Lots of love n appreciation,
Dami

So, I got this idea from this really cool blog. Thx thx thx, she writes thank you notes to the randomnest things! Here's one she did about facebook. The lesson is that there is ALWAYS some thing to be thankful for :)

What are ya!

So. Everytime it comes up that I have a blog, people respond in one of the following ways:
  • Oh really?! So do you blog about your feelings and stuff?
  • Oh really?! So do you take lots of pictures of yourself?
  • Oh really?! Is it about your hair journey?
In the midst of all the confusion, I decided to put out sort of a mission statement since the essence of sugary sea doesn't seem to be entirely clear..even to me at times. And so this is for the benefit of the reader and the writer :)

Sugary sea is an Inspirational lifestyle blog.

Michelle Obama moves to the groove

So I'm being pressed under the weight of dealines and revision but I am not crushed! Shout out to everyone preparing for exams or writting projects. The Lord is your strength.

Saw this video today of Michelle Obama doing the dougie on nbc. Loves it!!!
Michelle Obama is definitely a great role model, she's beautiful, stylish, classy, intelligent, down-to- earth and she can do the dougie! Coolest first lady out there. Trumps Mrs Patience "umblelaa" Jonathan anyday!!

And I love her neon green top! *still in my neon green phase*
